Blowing Rock North Carolina
is a small mountain village located at the 4,000-foot level in the Blue Ridge Mountains in the western part of the state. Established as a mountain resort in 1889, the village of Blowing Rock has been a haven for visitors ever since. The town sits astride the Eastern Continental Divide and is the only full service community on the Blue Ridge Parkway and is centrally located near many attractions. The town of Blowing Rock offers cool mountain temperatures, lush forests, sparkling streams and waterfalls, and warm, southern hospitality. Main Street is lined with interesting antique stores, gardens, cafes, and unique shops with handmade items by local artisans. The fresh aroma of handmade fudge, watching artisans at work – it’s all a part of the Blowing Rock experience. You’ll find enough to keep you busy for days. Although Blowing Rock has a slow, gentle lifestyle, it also has plenty of exciting outdoor activities if you like more action. Seventeen ski resorts are located just outside Blowing Rock and miles of hiking trails meander through the forests. Bear, deer and other wildlife roam the countryside, and the Tweetsie Railroad is a tradition for many families who come back to enjoy it time and time again.
The nearby resort towns of Boone and Banner Elk also offer many attractions, recreational and cultural activities. The Blue Ridge Parkway, which winds through 469 miles of the southern Appalachians, is a scenic way to visit all the places you want to see in the Blowing Rock area. Numerous lookout points with incredible views are found along the Parkway. Cultural opportunities in Blowing Rock include professional summer stock theater, Concerts in the Park on Sunday evenings, and Art in the Park (a series of juried arts & crafts shows.)
