Blowing Rock, North Carolina
is the only full service community located on the Blue Ridge Parkway in the western mountains of North Carolina. It’s a small mountain resort town known for its quaint shops and close proximity to winter ski resorts. Tourism is the main industry in Blowing Rock with retail, hospitality, restaurants and the ski resorts bringing in the most money. Winter and fall are the busiest seasons. The second largest industry is Christmas tree farming. Other businesses in town are banks and financing, schools, medical, law, local government and miscellaneous services. The town is closely tied to the other small mountain communities of the area such as Boone, Linville, Banner Elk and Spruce Pine. There is almost no industrial manufacturing in the Blowing Rock region.
